My great-grandfather Albert was deployed in Mesopotamia (modern day Iraq) during World War I. Albert took pictures of his vehicle (he was one of the few people who knew how to drive), items of war, but he also captured cultural spots across the country and a number of ethnic groups such as Marsh Arabs, Armenians, Christians, etc.
