About

I’ve wondered about this philosophical question, if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? If you think that sound is hearable noise, then it won’t make a sound, as it won’t be heard. This question has been with me in my travels. I’ve often wondered: if a story happens but no one ever tells it, did it ever happen?

Sharing what I see...

This blog is a way of  sharing things I’ve experienced. I’ve found it valuable to sit down and  capture a story, of people I’ve met, places I’ve been to, a book I’ve read or rituals I’ve discovered. Sharing helps make the experience real.

Family and friends have asked me to share more. They sometimes find my stories interesting and valuable, prompting reflection and exploration. This encouraged me to start this project.

I also feel a sense of responsibility to memorialise things. Some of things on these pages are fleeting, like the pictures taken by my great-grandfather and grandfather, like stories of people far from the limelight. It’s about people and places that don’t exist anymore.  Some of these things have a significance that is worth preserving and sharing.

Discovering Baqaa

During my first visit to Lebanon, a fortuitous encounter with a kind taxi driver gave me a chance to go on roads less travelled

About me

I’m a very lucky guy who had the chance to explore a lot of the world, as a tourist and as worker. I’ve been to more than a hundred territories and feel grateful for have interacted with amazing people, very far removed from my own perspective. These experiences have pushed me to think about many aspects of life, what it takes to be happy, what it means to be an individual, what you need to feel safe, what is purpose, and what is fragile and ephemeral. I’ve also benefited from a huge set of mentors and sources of inspiration whose wisdom and ‘hacks’ I try to share.

Discovery

As an individual, I have managed to combine a working life with a passion for exploration and discovery. I now have a family to look after and during the pandemic I don’t travel anymore. So these pages are an opportunity to re-live what I’ve lived.
