Lord of War
The teacher was asked to help the man translate documents related to the purchase of a property in London. The teacher's family were dissidents who took refuge here. The man's family were officials from the same regime. The man was reflecting on his background and on growing up with relatives whose hands were wet in blood. The teacher was reflecting on how it had affected the man's perspective on morality - and probably the impact on her own relatives too. The two met, as they both needed each other. One gave the other some of the blood money that had cost both of them so much - and so many others who never saw its colour, other than when it was taken from them, in labour camps, "factories", worthless "shares" and through other means.
I've seen Lord of War the other day. It's very good - and real, too. My kind of humour: black with no sugar.

Democracy
The Communists obtained only 1.18% of the votes for Sunday's Parliamentary elections in Geneva. Not enough votes to get a seat, which means their initiative of making public transport free probably won't happen soon. I'm disappointed that my support wasn't more effective. But I get some comfort from the very real possibility that I might have played a key role in tipping the score over to 1.18% (it could have been 1.17%), given that 1.18% of all voters makes for 800 people. I note with some amusement that the number of people who handed back empty and void votes exceeds 1.18% (2%). Even funnier is that looking at my voting district's result sheet, it looks like I was one of two people to have voted for the party's list.

Unblogged
I was caught unblogged by one of my commentators at party at SOAS recently. It happened as I was about to greet a friend's friend, but as I was about to introduce myself, the person greeted me by name, to my surprise. To add to my confusion, the guy added, "yeah, you're the spaceman". It then took me a quick second of furious thinking to identify the blogger and occasional visitor to this blog. Hope you're well.
I am now sitting at an internet cafe and overhearing a young english person chatting to an attractive indian girl over the internet. She is removing most of her clothes on her webcam. It is hard for me to pretend I'm not noticing anything. Er, I have now given up on the idea of blogging about anything else. But I wish I could have an excuse to watch the guy's screen, like, oh I know her, she's frequently posting on my blog, or something.
(Pic is of last night's Mean Fiddler gig - InMe, was pretty cool.)

Rose.ph is where Philippe Rose blogs. One day I'll have my office on the Moon (in Borneo for now).
